Post How much is to much for a 10/22

Hou much money would you pay for a ruger 10/22? The reason I'm asking is because I just got my rifle permit and I'm looking to buy a 10/22 just to get familiar with rifle shooting. Non of the gun shops in my area had them in stock but one shop said they would order it for me and it would cost $260. I figured it's not bad for a .22 so I said go ahead and order it! I get a call this morning saying the gun arrived but now I'm being told it's going to cost me $380 because of tax and that it needs a case and trigger lock. Do you think I should pay the $380 or start my search all over again?

Bro, 260.00 is a great price for a 10/22. The guy most likely screwed up when giving you a price. 290.00 to 310.00 is the prices Ive seen depending on the stock type, if it's a take down etc...but 120.00 for taxes??? Thats BS. I'd go elsewhere. Try gun broker on line. The prices at auction can be real good. Peace bro...

thanks for the imput. it should be interesting to see what they say when I go down later to meet with the staff. You figure if the gun is 260 and now they say it's 380 a case and lock had better be made of gold or have free ammo with it.

they are ripping you off by trying to bundle in that extra stuff that you don't need, just to pump up the price for them. You can go on Budsgunshop.com right now and order one for $250 shipped. Pick it up at your FFL and pay the transfer fee, probably about $20, and you walk away with a new one for $270 without the hassle of the crooked gunshop you mentioned here. Buying them online means you avoid the sales tax too, can be beneficial.

Never again shop at that place. What a bunch of crap. The gun does NOT require a case and trigger lock, they are trying to force stuff on you, make it sound like you need it, to squeeze more money out of you. I would go to their store and tell them to piss off.

You could get a simple case for about $15-20 and a trigger lock for even less.
