Depends on whether or not you want to carry full power 10mm loads, FBI-Lite, or mainstream ammo that is hardly any different than the .40S&W. I prefer to carry full power loads, and I'm partial to Underwood or DoubleTap. Underwood has good prices. Check them out at underwoodammo.com

recommend please full load for personal carry. please give grain size. also, underwood does not seem to have anything in stock. any other full loads? double tap, buffalo bore?
what about critical defense? thanks.

Double Tap 10MM is the way to go. It is all good. I did a video on DP & they check rounds by hand...They will always go Bam.

what caliber and bullet type would you recommend for a versatile round that would be good for personal defense in a home invasion situation but would also be a good hunting round?

hunting what?

It would be used as a sidearm. I am mostly concerned with coyotes in the woods after dark when I am carrying a muzzle loader after getting out of my tree stand. I might consider taking a shot at a bear as well in a close range situation rather than the muzzle loader.

look at the double tap website. they have descriptions of all their loads in 10mm. i'd venture a guess that whatever works on people would work on coyotes, but probably not bear where you'd want the hard cast lead round for greater penetration.

I ended up ordering 2 boxes of 50 of the 200 grain nosler jacketed hollow points. That is what they recommended for a good versatile round for my purposes.

The ballistics on the hornady ammo is now where near the Double tap or Underwood ammo for the 10mm. Would be OK just for practice but for personal defense or hunting applications the Hornady is not close besides that is exclusive to Cabela's and they are out of stock
